Transcreation is the merger of the words translation and creation. It means adapting and recreating marketing and other creative content to different languages to serve specific target audiences. When transcreating, translators and copywriters look to preserve the original message, context, emotion, and tone. The objective of transcreation is to recreate the original message in another language, while maintaining the same emotional experience as the source text. Transcreated content is customized to fit the culture, slang and dialect of your target audience.

What type of content could need transcreation?

Transcreation can be needed in a number of different channels of content. Anything that requires creative translations and adaptations is bound to need transcreations. Some content samples include:

⦁ Taglines
⦁ Slogans
⦁ Promotional materials
⦁ Advertisements
⦁ Marketing emails
⦁ Global branding campaigns
⦁ Websites
⦁ Brochures
⦁ Signs and posters

⦁ Presentations
⦁ Product names
⦁ Character names
⦁ Commercials
⦁ Public relations
⦁ Marketing materials
⦁ Headlines
⦁ Creative writing
⦁ Copywriting

Transcreation service offering
While translation usually begins with a source text, the transcreation process often kicks off with a creative brief. Clients provide the content and context and the Terra Translations team take care of transcreating the content for all required target markets.

Terra manages the complete process of getting your content properly transcreated, which may include the following services:

  • Copy-writing
Terra’s expert transcreators native to the target market language will work with you to create original content that resonates with your target audience.
  • Multiple transcreation options
For important marketing campaigns, Terra offers three various transcreation versions of each slogan, brand name or tagline. This gives you the ability to choose the best message for your target market.
  • Back translation
The back translation is a service offered as an additional quality control measure. In a normal translation process, a translator translates a document. Then an editor and proofreader review the translation and makes corrections if needed. A more stringent translation process includes back translation, whereby a second translator translates the translation back to the original language. An editor then compares the original document with the back translation and verifies that there are absolutely no discrepancies between the two documents. This service provides a better understanding of the target text, keeping you in full control of your globally branded messaging.

“Terra Translations made my life easier. Articulating creativity is not only tricky in English but even more so if you want materials translated into 7 different languages. The translated piece has to make sense not just word to word but also culturally, context and design. I had these Innovation Worksheets we put a lot of thought into building out in English but as we thought about translating this into new languages I knew how important it was to have a partner who could help think holistically about the translated materials like us and not just do word to word translation. That’s why Terra made our life easier. They not only translated with full context, culture, and nuance. They also nudged and gave perspective in making sure the text was lined up on our final designed documents and ensuring all project management piece beautifully. I loved it so much that now I can’t wait to get many more of our materials translated so that we make it more accessible for our global audience who is hungry to learn creativity. Thank you, Terra, for helping us spread creativity better!”
